Its hard to believe that the Perfect Dark series began 25 years ago on Nintendo 64 back in 2000. The original Perfect Dark game is considered to be one of best first-person shooter games from the early 2000’s. Despite, being a N64 exclusive the original Perfect Dark game managed to sell more than 2.5 million copies worldwide. Since the release of the original Perfect Dark game we got a prequel that appeared on Xbox 360 entitled Perfect Dark Zero. We also got a remastered version of the original Perfect Dark game back in 2010 which also appeared on the Xbox 360. During the 2010’s it seemed like the Perfect Dark franchise was dead until it was announced in 2020 that a remake of the classic first-person shooter was on its way. We did not know too many details about the Perfect Dark Reboot until Summer 2024 when actual gameplay footage was revealed. The gameplay for the Perfect Dark reboot looked impressive featuring first-person shooter action along stealth and parkour mechanics. The Perfect Dark Reboot going to reintroduce the gaming world to Joanna Dark a special agent and the main protagonist of the series.

The story for Perfect Dark focuses on Joanna trying to uncover dark secrets; involving a conspiracy concerning mega-corporations and the environmental collapse that has a negative effect on the world as we know it. The setting for the Perfect Dark reboot is supposed to take place in the near-future with the official year itself being unknown for the time being. While the gaming community has praised the gameplay aspect of the Perfect Dark reboot so far there have been criticisms about Joanna Dark’s character model. The belief is that Joanna look far less feminine than she did in previous games and that her sex appeal is what helped draw interest to the other installments. Aside from Joanna’s appearance the Perfect Dark reboot looks great especially considering the fact that it utilizes the Unreal Engine 5. The Perfect Dark reboot is going to be released exclusively for the Xbox Series X and PC since its going to be published by Xbox Game Studios. The Perfect Dark reboot is also have Crystal Dynamics and The Initiative as its co-developers.

While the Perfect Dark reboot will be The Initiative’s first major video game project many people are optimistic about this game since Crystal Dynamics will be working on it. Crystal Dynamics has been working on Tomb Raider games since the mid-2000’s and produced some of most successful installments within its franchise from 2013-2018. As far as the release date for the Tomb Raider reboot is concerned many are speculating that the game is going to launch sometime in 2026. There was no confirmation during the gameplay trailer for the Perfect Dark reboot that the game was going to be released anytime in 2025. If the Perfect Dark reboot was going to be released in 2025 we definitely would of known by now. Its better for the Perfect Dark reboot to get released in 2026 opposed to getting a rushed and unpolished game a year early. One of the biggest questions is whether or not Perfect Dark is still a huge attraction 25 years year and if the reboot will help revitalize the series.
