It seems like Sega’s Space Channel 5 from ’99 has become a cult classic over the past decades. Space Channel 5 first appeared on the Sega Dreamcast and for the most part it got overlooked by many casual gamers. The Dreamcast was not selling nearly as much as the original PlayStation or Nintendo 64. Also, Space Channel 5 was unlike your average video game because it was within the music genre. Space Channel 5 was not necessarily like Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution but it was a unique type of music video game. Space Channel 5 had a story and was very creative in relation to its execution in terms of gameplay. While we did get a sequel for Space Channel 5 back in 2002 Sega had decided not to continue the series for whatever reason. Its possible that the Space Channel 5 series ended because of low sales or lack of interest from casual gamers. However, seeing that Space Channel 5 is looked upon in a different light 25 years later a reboot of the ’99 might possibly be something that would appeal more to casual today. While the music genre of gaming has been seemingly dead for the past several years a Space Channel 5 reboot would shine more now that it would a decade ago when the Guitar Hero and RockBand franchises were still popular.
