Its hard to believe that Phantasy Star IV is more than 30 years old. Phantasy Star IV was quite possibly one of Sega’s best video games from the 90’s outside of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In fact, Phantasy Star IV was probably one of Sega’s best JRPG’s in general. Phantasy Star IV had everything one could ask for during the 16-bit era of gaming including a cool intro, nice graphics and a memorable soundtrack. Phantasy Star IV is one of those games that never got remade or remastered for current generation console despite how popular it was on the Genesis console between ’93-95. Since Sega plans on reviving a multiple IP’s that were popular during the 90’s they should consider doing something with the Phantasy Star series. Phantasy Star IV is an RPG that many people still speak fondly about to this day despite not being a massive commercial success during the time of its release. Similar to some of Sega’s older IP’s like Streets of Rage II and Comix Zone it seems like Phantasy Star IV has developed a cult following over the past couple of decades. Phantasy Star IV is one of the few Sega games that has aged gracefully over time and is deserving of a sequel or even a prequel for that matter. A modern day remake of one of the older Phantasy Star games from ’87-’93 is something that many Sega fans would love to see.
