It seems like 2024 is a year that has been full of surprises in relation to announcements for upcoming games. The announcement of Splitgate 2 is something that almost no one expected. Splitgate 2 will be a multiplayer first-person shooter that supposed to feature 4v4 gameplay. Similar to the original Splitgate game that came out back in 2019 Splitgate 2 will be free to play. Splitgate 2 is going to have 1047 Games as its developer and publisher and runs using the Unreal Engine 5. Splitgate 2 will allow players to chose their faction and weapons while allowing them to master their portal abilities.

People who decide to sign up for Splitgate 2 beforehand will be granted access to exclusive content and in-game rewards. The app for Splitgate 2 is free to download and the game itself looks more like Destiny with portals than the original title which felt closer to Halo. Its surprising that we are getting another Splitgate game especially since the original installment from 2019 was considered to be a commercial failure. Splitgate 1 had reportedly lost $1.5 Billion despite receiving great reviews from critics. However, the player count for the original Splitgate game is actually pretty low for a free-to-play game. During most of ’24 the average player count for Stargate 1 ranges between 240K-260K. While Splitgate 2 might end up being one of most desired first person shooters of 2025 its unlikely to rival Fortnite’s level of popularity. Splitgate 2 will be available for multiple game systems including PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. The official release date of Splitgate 2 has yet to be revealed but its being looked at as one of the biggest free-to-play games of 2025.
