Its hard to believe that a few years ago Harley Quinn was one of the most popular names and beloved names within the DC Universe. While Harley Quinn is still one of the biggest names in relation to DC comics, movies and video games her popularity has noticeably taken a significant hit. Harley Quinn has been around in DC comics since ’92 and here popularity had only increased as decades passed especially following the start of the Batman Arkham series in 2009. Harley Quinn’s role in games like Batman: Arkham City from 2011 played a significant role in making her one of the biggest female anti-heroines of the 2010’s decades. Harley Quinn’s appearances in both Injustice games as a member of Batman’s Insurgency against Superman’s One World Regime made casual gamers and DC fans like her even more during the 2010’s decade. When the Suicide Squad film from 2016 was released it initially received a ton of hate and backlash from critics and DC fans. However, over the pas several years some people have grown to appreciate the Suicide Squad film from 2016 because it was “fun” despite not being as great as other DC movies that came before it. By the time we got to 2019 Harley Quinn got her own animated series which lasted four seasons and ended up being way better than anyone expected.

In 2020, we got to see Harley Quinn in the Birds of Prey movie featuring Margot Robbie which many would argue played a role in hurting her popularity. While “Birds of Prey” was not great it was not bad either and many would argue that it was a step above the Suicide Squad movie from 2016. Also, the recent Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game was one that was overhyped prior to its release. After, Suicide Squad: KTJL was released it received a Metascore of 6.0 and received mostly unfavorable reviews. It really made no sense to have Harley Quinn kill off Batman towards the end of Suicide Squad: KTJL mainly because both characters were fan favorites apart from any group they were affiliated with. If anything Harley Quinn killing off Batman is something that made many people dislike her in general. Harley Quinn accomplishing something that Joker could not do for years makes him look foolish and her being heavily included in almost anything DC related feels like a drag. Its hard to believe that at one point Harley Quinn surpassed both Joker and Wonder Woman in popularity during the mid to late 2010’s. Harley Quinn shined more as a solo act away from the Suicide Squad or if she was involved with the Joker in anyway. Harley Quinn appeal during the 2010’s came from being a crazy rebellious ass kicking comedic chick who did whatever she wanted. Seeing Harley and the rest of the Suicide Squad work for Amanda Waller in the Kill The Justice League game did not feel right at all. It seems unlikely that Harley Quinn will ever be as popular again as she was back in the mid to late 2010’s. While Harley Quinn’s character may have been ruined by certain movies and games her legacy is not in shambles like Batman following Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
