The Sonic the Hedgehog series has been around since the early 90’s and since then it has shined mainly within the platform genre in relation to gaming. The Sonic Team has produced many classics within the Sonic franchise during the 90’s and the first half of the 2000’s but hardly any of them were RPG’s. The only Sonic game that we got that was close to an RPG was Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood which came out for Nintendo DS back in 2008. The Sonic Chronicles game is one hardly anyone remembers because the blue hedgehog’s popularity had significantly declined towards the late 00’s. Also, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood was developed by Bioware opposed to Team Sonic which is one of the reasons why the game was not too memorable. An official Sonic RPG title from the Sonic Team would be very interesting especially since the blue hedgehog has a bigger fan base now than he did over a decade ago. The success of the last two Sonic the Hedgehog movies from 2020-2022 has attracted more casuals to the franchise and a high profile RPG title is something that could spice up the franchise. Trying new things and thinking outside the box in terms of creativity is something Sonic Team and Sega needs to do more often. Despite, the Sonic franchise arguably being within its peak in popularity right now Sonic Team definitely should produce at least one or two successful RPG before calling it quits especially since the platform genre is not nearly as popular as it used to be.
