The late 90’s was such a glorious time for gaming especially ’97 where we got to see some of the best video game releases of all-time. In 1997, we got to see the release of high profile titles such as Final Fantasy VII, Mario Kart 64, GoldenEye 007, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Tekken 3. Even though, Capcom had some cool games like Street Fighter III: New Generation and Marvel vs Street Fighter in ’97 those game overshadowed their DarkStalkers 3 game which came out that same year. DarkStalkers 3 received its arcade release in ’97 before appearing on Sega Saturn and PlayStation in ’98. DarkStalkers 3 had about fifteen playable characters including the likes of Morrigan Aensland, Felicia, Lord Raptor, Anakaris, Hsien-Ko, BB. Hood and Demitri Maximoff. DarkStalkers 3 featured an Arcade, Versus and Training mode similar to its predecessors and was not heavily story driven. DarkStalkers 3 there were no game modes in DarkStalkers 3 that really added its replay value but trying to beat the game with each character to see their endings was fun. Players had the option to choose how they wanted to play the game with each character with modes like Normal, Turbo, Auto or Auto & Turbo.

The Damage Gauge System in DarkStalkers 3 was pretty unique because it allowed characters to recover their health instantly opposed to going from round to round which was not too common in fighting games at the time. As a 2D horror fighting title DarkStalkers 3 was criminally underrated despite not being as popular as the Night Warriors game from 1994. DarkStalkers 3 was one of the games where players got to see how cool the CPS -2 hardware was in relation to artwork and gameplay. Despite, DarkStalkers 3 not being a massive commercial success it was still one of the best fighting games that Capcom put out in 1997. The inclusion of new characters like Lilith, Q-Bee and the main villain of DarkStalkers 3 Jedah Dohma were nice additions to the DarkStalkers series despite Jedah not being nearly as iconic or difficult to beat as the Pyron from the Night Warriors game from 1994.
