Everyone knows that Octopath Traveler 2 was released in 2023 and despite how good it was the game was clearly overshadowed by numerous other RPG’s from that year. Octopath Traveler 2 did not sell quite as much as its predecessor from ’18 which ended up doing around three million in sales. While it has been implied that Octopath Traveler 2 has reached around one million in sales its still considered to be disappointing for Square Enix. Its been well documented that Square Enix has been dealing with some serious financial woes in relation to losing $2 billion this pass year in 2023. Some of the more recent games that Square Enix put out like Final Fantasy XVI, Forspoken and Octopath Traveler 2 has failed to meet their sales expectations. Knowing the financial losses that Square Enix had suffered this past year it puts the future of the Octopath Traveler series in question. Its quite possible that an Octopath Traveler 3 game may never happen if top executives from Square Enix feels that that the series has already reached its peak. The Octopath Traveler series appeals more to a niche audience of hardcore gamers who are into 2D pixel art RPG’s opposed to casual gamers.
