When it comes down to high profile video games on the Sega Saturn one of the few titles that instantly comes to mind is Saturn Bomberman from 1996. Even though, there has been more than 60 Bomberman titles that has been released within the past four decades the Sega Saturn titles is considered to be one of the best entries within the whole series. Saturn Bomberman had an animated intro similar to that of Sonic CD and had a story mode which allowed co-op gameplay between two players. Saturn Bomberman probably had the nicest looking graphics of any entry within its series during the 90s had. Also, the soundtrack in Saturn Bomberman was also.a nice touch because it added to the gameplay as players blew up poles and blocks using red orbs. One of the key features of Saturn Bomberman that really stood out was the Battle mode which allowed up to ten different players if players possessed a multi-tap. Saturn Bomberman was also one of the first installments within its series to feature online gameplay since the America version of the game had Sega Netlink.

Online gameplay was not really popular during the mid 90’s so in someways Saturn Bomberman was ahead of its time. One of the reasons why Saturn Bomberman did not become more popular than it during the mid 90’s was because the Sega Saturn ended up being a commercial failure in America. The Sega Saturn cost $399 back in the mid 90’s which was a lot of. money back then and the more affordable PS1 was more popular in America during that time period. Its a shame that Hudson Soft did not remake Saturn Bomberman before it became defunct back in 2012. Saturn Bomberman was quite possibly one of the best video games from the Sega Saturn era outside of the Sonic the Hedgehog series which is actually a pretty big deal.
