As many people know the StarCraft series is considered to be legendary within gaming world. The StarCraft series began back in the late 90’s and the best game that we got to see within the franchise was StarCraft II which came out in 2010. Back in the early 2010’s the landscape of the gaming world was different and the real-time strategy genre was more popular than it is right now. While many people have wanted to see a StarCraft III game for over the past decade it seems like Blizzard Entertainment has no interest in making another entry. StarCraft II was a game that achieved massive commercial success at the peak of its popularity reaching at least six million copies in sales worldwide. While StarCraft was a huge attraction back in the day Activision-Blizzard has bigger franchises that the company focuses on more that appeals to casual gamers. Activision-Blizzard has franchises like Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo WarCraft and Candy Crush that are way more relevant and exciting than StarCraft. Also, while the servers for StarCraft II are still up and tournaments involving the game still take place around the world it still caters to a very niche audience of gamers in this day and age. An official StarCraft III announcement or a reboot of the series would definitely trend on social media but its unclear how it would perform in terms of sales in the 2020’s decade. Blizzard Entertainment has not necessarily gone on record and said that the series is dead but they do not seem to have any big plans on bringing it back either.
