Is hard to believe that Dj Hero was released by Activision fifteen years ago. Dj Hero was a spin-off game to the highly successful Guitar Hero series which began in 2005. Dj Hero was basically like a hip-hop version of Guitar Hero since players utilized turntables and followed on-screen prompts in order to scratch and mix old school pop songs. Dj Hero was developed by FreeStyleGames the same entity that worked on Guitar Hero Live from ’15 and was released on multiple gaming consoles like PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii-U. Dj Hero was one of the most innovative video games of the late 00’s because it allowed players to learn the basics of mixing and challenged them to become better players. The learning curve for Dj Hero appeared to be somewhat intimidating to casual gamers but the learning experience was actually fun to those who were really into the music rhythm genre. Similar to most of the Guitar Hero games Dj Hero had a single-player campaign mode and multiplayer co-op gameplay.

Dj Hero had licensed music from the 90’s along with the 00’s featuring popular artists including Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Rihanna, Daft Punk and many more. Despite, not having the same level of success as the Guitar Hero games from the 2000’s Dj Hero still managed to reach around 1.2 million copies in sales. Dj hero also managed to spawn a direct sequel Dj Hero 2 in 2010 also. The gameplay, aesthetics, soundtrack and learning curve Dj Hero provided were among the key features that made it addictive back in 2009. Even though, Dj Hero ended up catering more towards a niche audience than Guitar Hero it had more success than many expected; especially considering the fact that Dj Hero was a spin-off series. Activision should really consider rebooting the DJ Hero series or at the very least make a Dj Hero 3 sometime in the future.
