Its hard to believe that DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors has been around for the past 30 years. The original DarkStalkers game was released back in ’94 and has been seen as one of the few underrated fighting gems of the CPS II era of gaming. DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors felt like a much darker version of Street Fighter II with an unbelievable difficulty level. Over the few decades DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors has been widely looked at as one of the hardest 2D fighting games of its era because of its steep learning curve. DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors was almost as difficult as one of SNK’s old-school KOF games from the 90’s. The characters that were introduced in the original DarkStalkers game featured the likes of Morrigan Aesland, Felicia, Hsien-Ko, Demtri Maximoff, Anakaris and Lord Raptor. The stage designs for each character in DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors were impressive and it was obvious that Capcom was trying to appeal to a more adult audience.

Despite, not being a massive commercial success like Street Fighter series DarkStalkers : Night Warriors managed to gain cult following especially after its ’95 sequel came out. DarkStalkers even got its own four episode OVA in ’97 which was far better in terms of quality than it had any business being. One of the reasons why the original DarkStalkers game is generally overlooked was because there was so much competition within the fighting genre of gaming during the mid 90’s. It should be noted that ’94 was the year games like Tekken, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, Killer Instinct and X-Men: Children of the Atom came out. DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors is a game that could have shine more if Capcom released it a few years earlier. Many believe that DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors was one of Capcom’s best fighting games outside of the Street Fighter series or anything Marvel related they worked on during the 90’s. Even though, the DarkStalkers series has been dead since the 90’s a modern day reboot of the original game is something that would turn heads within the gaming world because of the nostalgia.
