The King of Fighters ’99 is a game that came out 25 years ago and is seen as one of the better arcade fighting titles from late 90’s. King of Fighters ’99 was the sequel to the critically acclaimed KOF ’98 game which saw the start of a brand new storyline following the conclusion of the Orochi saga in KOF ’97. While King of Fighters ’98 had no storyline KOF ’99 saw the introduction of the NESTS Chronicles saga which involved a shadow organization trying to take over the world. While the plot for KOF ’99 was intriguing it was also a bit frightening especially considering the fact that story was inspired by reality. The story for KOF ’99 was not as popular as the Orochi Saga but the graphics, gameplay mechanics along with the roster itself was pretty solid. KOF ’99 saw the introduction of a new main antagonist named Krizalid an agent from the NESTS organization and featured two different clones of the main character Kyo Kusanagi. KOF ’99 had characters like Joe Higashi, Lori Yagami, Mai Shiranui, Andy Bogard, Kyo Kusangi and many others.

King of Fighters ’99 was not as popular as KOF ’98 and was not quite on the same level in terms of quality in relation to KOF 2000. KOF ’99 is fighting that is often overlooked due to the high profile fighting titles that came out during the late 90’s including Street Fighter Alpha 3, Tekken 3, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs Capcom and others. KOF ’99 might not be an entry that would be in anyone’s top five in relation to the best within the series but definitely deserved more credit than it got back in the day.
