Its absolutely amazing to see how far the Sonic the Hedgehog series has come since the mid 90’s. Sonic & Knuckles was released for Sega Genesis back in ’94 for Sega Genesis and it was considered to be the second part of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Sonic & Knuckles is 30 years old and it was quite possibly one of the more challenging entries within the 2D Sonic series. Sonic & Knuckles were the only playable characters within the game with Tails being absent and each having their own respective story. Sonic & Knuckles was intentionally designed to be more challenging than Sonic 3 because the game had no save feature . Sonic & Knuckles also had no multiplayer gameplay which was seen as a negative in comparison to Sonic 3. Despite, lacking minor features that made Sonic 3 a success many people still loved Sonic & Knuckles for its new mini-games along with the level designs for each stages.

The biggest feature that Sonic & Knuckles had that was considered to be revolutionary was the lock on adapter that the cartridge had. The lock on adapter was cool because players were able to use it for both Sonic 2 & 3. Players had the ability to select Knuckles in Sonic 2 while being able to utilize his skills and abilities using the lock on adapter which was a pretty big deal back in the day. Both Sonic 3 along with Sonic & Knuckles became so popular that almost 30 years later a movie was made based of the games themselves. As a 2D platform Sonic & Knuckles is still a very fun game to 30 years later despite now having the same level of success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
