
Def Jam Fight for NY is widely regarded as one of the most high profile fighting titles from the 2000’s. Def Jam Fight for NY was the sequel to the critically acclaimed Def Jam Vendetta game from 2003 published by Electronic Arts. Def Jam Fight For NY was game that took elements of street fighting and pro wrestling to create a game that was very different from what casual gamers were used to seeing within the fighting genre. Def Jam Fight for NY featured the most popular rappers from the 90’s and early 2000’s including Ludacris, Method Man, Joe Budden, Redman, Ghostface Killah and many others with a roster that was almost twice as big as the prequel. Def Jam Fight for NY also saw the return of the main antagonist from Def Jam Vendetta D-Mob along with the introduction of a new main villain Crow a.k.a Snoop Dogg. The storyline and cinematic cutscenes for Def Jam Fight for NY was far better than what we got in the ’03 prequel as players had to create their own custom character to play through the story mode.

Def Jam Fight for NY also saw the inclusion of brand new venues where players could participate in cage fighting along with brawling in venues such as the subway, nightclubs and parking lots. Def Jam Fight for NY was also the first American fighting game to include an Inferno Match something WWE games did not have until 2008. Def Jam Fight for NY was a very fun and addictive game when it first came out and it sill is two decades later. The story mode in Def Jam Fight for NY is enough to keep you busy for days because of how long it was. Each character had their own fighting styles and special moves which made people want to as everyone to see who can do what. Also, the soundtrack for Def Jam Fight for NY which featured hip-hop artists like Xzibit, Public Enemy and Big Daddy Kane added to the overall quality of the game itself. Within the past 20 years Def Jam Fight for NY had gained somewhat of a cult following because how unique, creative and different it was from any fighting game you would have seen in the 2000’s or even today for that matter. There are countless gamers within the only gaming community who would love to see another fighting like Def Jam Fight for NY but its something that seems unlikely today seeing how much hip-hop has declined in popularity since the 2000’s.
