Super Metroid is one of the most iconic games to have emerged from the 16-bit era of the early 90’s. Super Metroid was the sequel to Metroid II: Return of Samus from ’91 and it was the game which many believed help launch the franchise into the limelight. The story for Super Metroid focused on Samus Aran’s travel to the Planet Zebus while searching for another Metroid. Super Metroid was the game that had Mother Brain as the final boss and end up being the final entry within the series during the 90’s decade. After Super Metroid there were man y who believed that the series was dead since Nintendo decided not to make a sequel for the Nintendo 64. Even though, we did get Metroid Prime for GameCube in 2002 the Super Metroid title was probably one of the best entries within the entire series. Without the Super Metroid game from ’94 the “metroidvania” genre would not have been relevant post 90’s.
The metroidvania genre inspired various indie video game developers during the 2010’s especially with titles like Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, BloodStained: Ritual of the Night, Ori and the Blind Forest and many others. Super Metroid is one of those games that deserved a 3D Remake for a very long time now. In fact, its surprising to know that Nintendo has never even bothered remastering Super Metroid considering how popular it was and still is today. Since Nintendo remastered and rereleased Metroid II back in 2017 its always possible that Nintendo can eventually do something special with Super Metroid sometime in the future. Even though, Super Metroid is very old the 16-bit graphics looked crisp and its a game that casual would still enjoy playing in 2024. The learning curve for Super Metroid was not difficult and it was probably one of the better action-adventure titles to have emerged on the SNES during the 90’s.
