The Mortal Kombat movie from ’95 is considered to be one of the most iconic video game films of all-time. The Mortal Kombat film was released during the mid 90’s following the massive commercial success the first two video game entries became from ’92-94. The Mortal Kombat movie was jointly produced by Threshold Entertainment and New Line Cinema with a $20 million budget. Despite, how cheesy the original Mortal Kombat looked it ended up becoming a huge commercial success earning over $122 million in box office revenue. One of the reasons why people look back at the ’95 Mortal Kombat so fondly is because the cast of characters not only looked looked the part but they also played their roles very well. Actors including Robin Shou, Bridgette Wilson and Talisa Soto were able to pull of some really good fight scenes in the movie and the storytelling kept viewers emotionally invested in the movie itself.

The fight scene between Liu Kang and Reptile was awesome and the bout between Johnny Cage & Goro had some comedy to it. Also, the story for Mortal Kombat revolved around Liu Kang avenging his fallen brother Kung Lao who was killed by the main antagonist Shang Tsung. The original Mortal Kombat movie was not necessarily the greatest fighting movie of all-time but it was far better than its sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation from 1997. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was so bad that it was humorous while the original MK film was so cheesy that it was cool. The original Mortal Kombat movie not only had cool fighting scenes but the soundtrack itself was amazing and really added to the quality of the film itself.  Its hard to believe that it has been almost 30 years since the original Mortal Kombat movie came out and the franchise is more popular now than it was during the mid 90’s.
