It seems like the stealth genre is one of the most underrated yet unpopular preferences in terms of video games. The stealth genre of gaming has never been as popular as action-adventure, RPG’s or even first-person shooters. The most popular the stealth genre has been in games like the Metal Gear Solid or the Hitman series. The latest Metal Gear Solid game that we got came out in 2015 and the last Hitman title came out back in 2021. The Metal Gear Solid V game from 2015 actually did great in terms of sales reaching around six million copies sold worldwide. Despite, how popular Metal Gear Solid V was its unlikely to get an official sequel due to the fallout between Hideo Kojima and Konami. Hitman 3 from 2021 reached approximately 15 million copies in sales and had at least 50 million players at the peak of its popularity. Metal Gear Solid was far more popular during the 2000’s decade than it was back in the 2010’s with MSG2 and MSG3 being the most beloved installments within the series. Even though, the stealth genre seems boring in comparison to other genres with a compelling story they can easily capture the interest of casual gamers. The stealth genre of gaming requires more psychology than other games and places emphasis on strategy opposed to non-stop action which is something that is appealing in its own unique way. The stealth genre is not necessarily obsolete its just overshadowed by more action driven video games which also have compelling stories and characters.
