There are many music lovers who miss the golden era of the music-rhythm genre from the late 00’s-early 10’s. Back in the day we had the franchises like the Guitar Hero, Rock Band, DJ Hero along with Dance Central. While the Dance Central series was awesome back in the day it obviously got overshadowed by its competition in relation to the music rhythm genre. Despite, only have a couple games Dance Central was fun for its time and many would argue that DC3 from 2012 was arguably the best installment within its own series. Dance Central 3 was released as a Xbox 360 exclusive and it utilized the Kinect device which allowed players to record their movements within the game itself. Dance Central 3 was pretty much like Guitar Hero or Rock Band without guitars in terms of gameplay especially because of its variety in relation to game modes and music. Dance Central 3 was published by Microsoft Games and developed by Harmonix Music Systems along with Backbone Entertainment.

This game was the sequel to Dance Central 2 from 2011 but it obviously got overshadowed by Just Dance 3 which also came out that same year. Just Dance 3 was created by Ubisoft and it managed to reach over 9 million copies worldwide while Dance Central 3 was unable to reach over one million. Despite, being a labelled a commercial failure Dance Central 3 was a fun and excited music-rhythm title that had a variety of game modes. One of the most exciting features included in Dance Central 3 was Crew Throwdown which allowed multiplayer gameplay of up to eight players. The game modes included in Crew Throwdown included Strike a Pose, Keep The Beat, Perform and Showdown each of them being competitive mini-games where one crew battles the other. Players also had the ability to level up their skills and abilities throughout Dance Central 3 while earning rewards including new characters and outfits. The online Live Challenge feature was something that Xbox Live users could have fun with because it allowed players to try and compete with each other to gain the highest score possible. Also, the story for Dance Central 3 was more intriguing than your typical career mode from Guitar Hero, Rock Band or Dj Hero because it included time travel to different decades including the 70’s, 80’s and the 90’s and the 2000’s. The story for Dance Central 3 also placed more emphasis on characters like main protagonists Rasa and Lima and the main villain Dr. Tan opposed to simply indie artists trying to become big stars. Even though, the story for Dance Central 3 was creative its quite possibly that it was so unrealistic that it failed to connect with casual gamers. Despite, not being a massive commercial success Dance Central 3 had a sequel entitled Dance Central Spotlight which came out in 2014 which had more refined gameplay and received a decent reception from gamers and critics alike for the Xbox One. While many people would love to see another Dance Central game everyone knows that the music-rhythm genre is dead. It also common knowledge that Epic Games owns Harmonix and the company seemingly has no plans on bring it back anytime in the near future.
