When Sonic the Hedgehog 2 first came out in ’92 it was one of the most addictive platform video games of its era. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is still praised by critics as being one of the greatest 2D platformers of all-time with its fast paced gameplay and amazing soundtrack. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sold at least six million copies worldwide following its release for the Sega Genesis and reportedly grossed over $450 million. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was arguably one of the greatest games that Sega has ever produced and its very shocking that the company never gave it a 3D Remake. The closest thing to a 3D Remake we got for the Sonic 2 video game was Sonic Generations where certain stages from older Sonic games like Chemical Plant Zone were playable. Sonic Generations included remakes of 2D levels from older Sonic title in 3D which was fun but not the same as remaking an entire game. While we did get a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie in 2022 Sega never seemed to have any plans on making a 3D version of the ’92 platform classic. A 3D version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 could possibly sell more than Sonic Frontiers from 2023 and would create a ton of buzz within the gaming community. While some argue that Sega is better off to sticking exclusively with 2D Sonic titles a 3D remake of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 could be possibly exception.
