The Toe Jam & Earl is one of Sega’s most forgotten video game franchises and has not been nearly as popular in the past two decades as it was during the 90’s. The reason why Toe Jam & Earl got overshadowed on the Sega Genesis during the 90’s was because of poor sales in comparison to more popular titles like the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy from ’91-’94. The Toe Jam & Earl series only had four major installments since its inception from ’91 and the latest entry from 2019 was surprisingly decent. Toe Jam & Earl Back in the Groove from ’19 was funded through Kickstarter and developed by HumaNature Studios. Even though, Sega had no involvement in the creation of Toe Jam and Earl: Back In The Groove they could still reboot the series considering the positive reception that it receiving following its release a few years ago. Sega has shown the gaming world that they are highly interested in reviving older IP’s such as: Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio and hopeful they can Toe Jam & Earl to their list of franchises to revive. While Toe Jam & Earl mainly appeals to hardcore Sega fans who grew up during the 16-bit era of the 90’s; Sega would have the opportunity to reintroduce the Toe Jam & Earl series to a casual audience of gamers who are unfamiliar with it.
