When it comes down to forgotten classics from the 16-bit era of the 90’s one of the many titles that comes to mind is the underrated platform title Ristar. Its been over two decades since Ristar was released for the Genesis console back in ’95 and it was one of the few titles that Sega could have turned into an actual video game series back in the day. Ristar was not nearly as popular as Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis console during the 90’s but the game itself was fun had great 16-bit graphics and a catchy soundtrack that could instantly get players hooked on the game itself. Even though, the platform genre has not been nearly as popular within the past few years as it was during the 90’s hardcore Sega fans look at games like Ristar and it gives them a strong sense of nostalgia. Its common knowledge now that Sega has plans on rebooting classic video game series that were popular back in the 90’s and 2000’s including Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. Since Sega will likely be rebooting more classic video game series from the past its likely that they could eventually make another Ristar game. Despite, Ristar having poor sales on the Genesis console during the mid 90’s another entry would standout today in modern gaming especially since variety is something that seems lacking in relation to genres.

One response to “Should Sega Reboot Ristar?”

  1. I would very much enjoy seeing Ristar make a comeback. A fresh new game would be nice, especially if they also gave us the OG on modern systems…outside of the Genesis collection that is.
