There are many people who are aware of the fact that Sonic Superstars came out on October 20th this year. Sonic Superstars is one of the few high profile 2D Sonic titles that Sega has released since Sonic Mania and the game itself looks very impressive. However, it should be noted that Sonic Superstars was released on the same day as games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 along with Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 along with Super Mario Bros. Wonder are considered to be among the best video games of 2023 along with many other titles including Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 and many other titles. The news that has been going around on various gaming websites including Eurogamer and Nintendo Life is that the sales for Sonic Superstars has suffered due to stiff competition from other video games. It has reported a few weeks ago that Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the Nintendo Switch has managed to reach around 4.3 million copies in sales for the Nintendo Switch since its release in October 2023. It also a known fact that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has managed to reach five million copies in sales within the past month since its release back in October 2023 as well. Sega would have been better off delaying the release of Sonic Superstars to November or December 2023 because many people probably forgot that it was coming out on the same day as Super Mario Bros. Wonder or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Sega should have known that Sonic Superstars was going to get overshadowed on October 20th because Super Mario and the Spider-Man franchises are both bigger than Sonic the Hedgehog. The news regarding the poor performance of Sonic Superstars was revealed during an investors meeting where Sega CEO Haruki Satomi mentioned the details surrounding the game falling below desired expectations. While Sega still has a large marketing campaign going on for Sonic Superstars its still possible that the sales for the game will eventually increase during the holiday season in December 2023.
