There are many people within the gaming community who is talking about Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off and how interesting yet dark Season 1 was. The story that we saw in Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off was very different than what many people had initially expected but it was far more intriguing than the movie Scott Pilgrim vs The World from 2010. In Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off a future incarnation of Scott himself ends up being the main antagonist due to his tragic split from Ramona Flowers. The future version of Scott Pilgrim ends up becoming a sad and vindictive loser who does everything in his power to prevent his younger self from dating and marring Ramona Flowers. At one point the future version of Scott Pilgrim ends up fighting his past self along with Ramona Flowers and her evil exes. While the future version of Ramona Flowers ended up clearing the air regarding the split between herself and the older Scott Pilgrim which lasted for more than a decade; the writers clearly did not focus on what happened between the two in the anime series. An entire season could be made focusing on details regarding what happened between future Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers. However, there has been headlines across the web saying that Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off might not be getting a second season. While the ending for Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off was somewhat uplifting despite everything that happened surrounding Scott’s disappearance and Ramona’s evil exes; it seems like Scott Pilgrim did not learn anything from the future incarnation of himself and gets with Ramona Flowers regardless.
Scott’s love and devotion to Ramona is going to lead to him becoming the everything his future self was trying to change which is sad. At this point the creators probably have no idea what direction to go for another season of Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off. Also, the Scott Pilgrim anime caters to a niche audience of people who are nerds, geeks or hardcore fans of video games. The Scott Pilgrim vs The World Movie from 2010 was a box office bomb despite having a cult following. While Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off had a more interesting story and was rated TV-MA opposed to TV-14 the story felt more realistic despite the inclusion of time travel and the constant video game references throughout the show. Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off showed its audience that maybe Ramona’s ex partners despite being evil were not the problem in terms of relationships. Scott Pilgrim’s folly and Ramona Flowers personality were most likely characteristics that lead to their relationship failing in the future leading to Scott’s future counterpart to realize that he made a huge mistake hooking up with Flowers.
