It seems like 2023 has been an exciting yet crazy year for gaming as far as news is concerned. We had the privilege of seeing so many high profile video games released this year but we also learned about numerous companies making layoffs and cutting back on expenses in the hopes of increasing their respective profits. While last year was a tumultuous year in relation to gaming companies making layoffs it seems like 2023 has been more devastating in comparison with the trend likely to continue in 2024. In 2023 we have heard announcements about companies including Niantic, Ubisoft, Microsoft, CD Projekt, Bioware along Sony making layoffs and downsizing their workforce due to rough economic conditions along with their attempts to trying and restructure their businesses in the future. Even though, we are towards the tail end of 2023 it seems like more news is coming out about other gaming companies following the same trend such is the case with 505 Group’s parent company Digital Bros Group. It was announced by Digital Bros Group that they plan on laying off 30 percent of its global workforce mainly due to the effects the pandemic had on the economy. Also, Digital Bros Group are fully aware that consumers have greater preference for established IP’s and prefer remakes of classic video games. The landscape of gaming has evolved significantly since over the past few years and customers are reluctant to become invested in brand new games especially since developers generally like to add micro-transactions or find new ways to dupe people into spending more than they should for DLC. The exact number of employees or departments that will be affected by Digital Bros Group job cuts are still unknown but they are most likely going to carry over into the first quarter of 2024.
