It seems like Alan Wake 2 has been making numerous headlines since its release on October 27th. Alan Wake 2 is a survival horror title that the gaming world has been waiting to see since 2010 and there various critics who believe that the gameplay experience that it offers is worth it. Despite, a somewhat rocky launch launch the overall quality in terms of gameplay, sound and missions for Alan Wake 2 is a lot better now since Remedy fixed a variety of technical issues the game had in the latest update. The launch of Alan Wake 2 is feels somewhat reminiscent of Cyberpunk 2077 from 2020 where the game was riddled with glitches and bugs cause it to receive mainly negative reviews. The strong points about Alan Wake 2 involved its visual presentation, storytelling and its dark atmosphere. While some people dislike the fact that Alan Wake 2 is linear and that the developers decided not to make the game an open world experience; survival-horror games like the Resident Evil series for the most part has been linear for over the past two decades. Alan Wake 2 is a game that some would argue is scarier than Resident Evil 4: Remake which is the other high profile survival-horror game that everyone has been talking about in relation 2023.

While RE4: Remake is a also a survival-horror title the storyline is more compelling than it is terrifying while Alan Wake 2 feels like the opposite to many people. Also, one of the most intriguing things about the storyline for Alan Wake 2 was the fact that the main villain Mr. Scratch was pretty much a doppelganger of the main character himself. Alan Wake 2 is a game that players could complete in under a day and the cinematic cutscenes and surprises throughout the game is something that casuals could easily sink their teeth into. Despite, how popular the first Alan Wake game was back in the early 2010’s it only managed to sell roughly over three million copies across multiple game systems in over a decade. Resident Evil 4: Remake managed to sell five million copies worldwide in approximately four months which is a testament to how popular the RE4 game still is to this day. While Alan Wake 2 has the potential to be the best video game of 2023 their were countless titles that was released this year that could easily rival it. In terms of “Game of the Year” Alan Wake 2 is up against titles such as Diablo IV, Baulder’s Gate III, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil IV and various other titles. As far as the survival horror genre is concerned Alan Wake 2 is something fresh and new and not just a remake of an older game which could potentially give it the edge over Resident Evil IV: Remake in terms of shining in that particular category.
