Octopath Traveler II is one of the many high profile video games that we got to see released in 2023 that many people have nothing but good things to say about. Critics feel that Octopath Traveler II is one of the few RPG titles that could get away with the turn-based gameplay formula that many feel is obsolete today. While action role-playing video games are more popular than traditional old school turn-based titles because they are more realistic. Octopath Traveler II is a title that caters more to a niche audience of old school gamers who were fans of 16-bit RPG during the 90’s. So far the Octopath Traveler game has surpassed one million copies in sales since its release for Nintendo Switch along with the PlayStation 5 and the PS4. While Square Enix has confirmed that Octapath Traveler II will be appearing on the Xbox Series X and PC early next year many wonder whether or not it will make a significant difference in relation to sales. In fact when it comes down to sales it seems like Square Enix has been struggling with their high profile titles in 2023 with Final Fantasy XVI being an example. While Final Fantasy XVI has reached over three million copies in sales since its June 2023 release it has fell below Square Enix’s desired expectations. Octopath Traveler II was a highly anticipated video game prior to its release and Square Enix probably expected the 2.5D RPG to sell more than it did considering how big the prequel was following its release in Summer 2018. While the Xbox Series X has sold less than the PlayStation 5 within the past three years this generation of gaming has more PC users than ever now. While Octopath Travler II has the potential to sell more than its predecessor its not guaranteed since the game does not have the mainstream appeal of other RPG titles that came out this year such as Diablo IV, Baldur’s Gate or Hogwarts Legacy.
