The Mortal Kombat series was one of the most popular video game franchises of the 90’s and even the 2010’s. However, during the 2000’s the Mortal Kombat series did not standout as much in comparison to other decades due to how the landscape of gaming was changing. During the 2000’s first and third person shooters along with action-adventure games appealed to many adults and teenagers due to their mature content. While Mortal Kombat has always featured mature content it seemed like casuals were not as interested in the franchise in comparison to the likes of the Tekken or the Soul Calibur series during the 2000’s. While Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance from 2002 was popular following its release it seems like every other game following that year feel under the radar despite how good they were. There were games like Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon which were all considered to be underrated by hardcore fans of the series. When you think about a game like Mortal Kombat: Armageddon it had almost everything one could ask for in a MK game including a stacked roster of characters who all had multiple fighting styles.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon also has one of the greatest intros ever in relation to its series and gave players the ability to create their own custom character. The Kreate a Fighter mode along with being able to create your own custom fatalities were all strong positives in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Also, Konquest Mode made Mortal Kombat: Armageddon feel more story driven in comparison to installments that preceded it. While Konquest mode is not nearly as entertaining as the storytelling in MK9-MK11 it was still unique and was apart of what made Mortal Kombat: Armageddon awesome towards the late 2000’s. Even though, Midway Games the developer for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon became defunct in 2010 due to bankruptcy Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment should own the rights to the game considering the fact that the company was acquired by them. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment remastering Mortal Kombat: Armageddon in the future seems unlikely since it did not generate as much revenue as the most recent installments within the MK series from the 2010’s. Even though, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon deserves to be remastered it seems like Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are more concerned with moving forward with the MK series especially now that NetherRealm Studios is responsible for developing games within the franchise.
