Final Fantasy XVI is one of the most high profile video games that got released in 2023. Since its release back in June 2023 the reception that Final Fantasy XVI got from critics and gaming publishers have been mainly positive. Final Fantasy XVI is a game that stands out from other entries within the series mainly because of its “M” rating. There were many people who liked the storyline, gameplay, graphics and overall quality of Final Fantasy XVI but the game fell below Square Enix’s expectations in relation to sales. While its a known fact that Final Fantasy XVI has surpassed 3 million copies in sales some believe that the game would have sold more if was released for other game systems like Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch. We do know that Final Fantasy XVI will be playable on PC in the future but it does not seem Square Enix has any plans on bringing the RPG to the Xbox Series X. Even though, Xbox Series X is not a game system where RPG titles shine as much in comparison to the PS5 having FFXVI on the Microsoft’s forth generation console could help the game gain more exposure to the casual audience of gamers. Not everyone owns a PlayStation 5 and the current price for Sony’s ninth generation console averages between $400-$600 depending on where you live and where you buy it from. While the price for the Xbox Series X is also very expensive everyone has different preferences in terms of what they like and when Final Fantasy XV was released back in 2016 fans of the FF series had more than one platform to play it one. In other words making FFXVI a PlayStation 5 exclusive during its launch may have been a costly mistake on the part of Square Enix. Even though, Final Fantasy XVI has done okay in terms of sales it could have done much better if Square Enix had released on PC and Xbox Series X alongside PS5 during its release in June 2023.
