It seems like Epic Games have been making headlines a lot lately but not necessarily for good reasons. Epic Games is not stranger when it comes down to controversy considering the negative publicity the company has been receiving within the past few years. It has recently been revealed that Epic Games plans on eventually laying off around 16 percent of its workforce which is going to lead to over 800 employees losing their jobs between now and early 2024. While economic hardship and rising inflation are likely contributors to Epic Games cost cutting move many believe that the recent lawsuit involving the Federal Trade Commission might be one of the key reasons for this decision. It should be noted that Epic Games had been ordered to pay $520 million in fines mainly because Fortnite had created an atmosphere where people felt unsafe and threatened while targeting children with unwanted charges; due to predatory pattens that forced parents to spend more money than what was necessary. It should be noted that Epic Games was involved in a high profile legal battle against the tech giant Apple back in 2021 regarding antitrust laws. Even though, the Supreme Court had argued in favor of Epic Games over Apple the legal battle did not bring any good publicity to either company. While Fortnite is still one of the most popular online video games in the industry right now its probably one of the few good things that Epic Games have going them right now. Epic Games has literally made over $1 billion annually from Fortnite revenue but ever since the legal battle against Apple the game has not been featured on App Store for MacOS & iOS users. Fortnite not being featured on MacOS & iOS is obviously going to hurt Epic Games in terms of annual revenue despite it being featured on multiple game consoles such as: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. Despite, the negative publicity Epic Games has been getting as of late its unlikely going to stop fans of Fortnite from enjoying the addictive battle royale game.
