It seems like the video game industry will soon be experiencing its first major strike something that nobody expected at the start of 2023. When it comes down to 2023 there has been mainly good news throughout the year with high profile video game releases but it seems like employees within the video game industry have been unhappy to say the least when it comes down to daily working conditions. One of the main issues with working conditions within the gaming industry is that the cost of living as gone up dramatically due to economic inflation and employees are not receiving raises despite how hard they work. A few months ago around May 2023 over 11,000 Writers Guild of America members had walked of the job and bu July 2023 film and television actors had officially went on strike for similar reasons as to why video game industry employees are doing the same thing. Along with major labor disputes in relation to pay and unsafe working conditions issues concerning the use of artificial intelligence is something that has played a role in the emerging video game strike as well. Similar to Hollywood and television actors video game actors want major entertainment corporations to consult them about using their voice and likeness in any major show, movie or project beforehand. While artificial intelligence has the ability to replace actors and voice-over artists its a known fact that AI cannot deliver the type of entertainment that workers who are on strike can. This trend concerning entertainment strikes and unionizing is something has been gaining mainstream attention throughout 2023 especially with Sega workers along with Microsoft video game testers forming their own respective unions. Also, in relation to horrible working conditions we have heard negative stories about video game companies like Activision Blizzard, Nintendo of America, Electronic Arts and others within the past few years in relation to sexual harassment. The video game industry has really been a mess due to toxic environments and employees not getting paid enough to deal with it while the cost of living in America continues to skyrocket due to inflation along with a collapsing economy.
