The Tomb Raider series has been around for almost three decades now and there have been various installments within franchise that long time fans are highly fond about. But when it comes down to the 2010’s there are many people who would argue that the Tomb Raider 2013 game was the best entry within its series in relation to that decade. Tomb Raider 2013 was developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix and was released for the PS4, PS3 along with Steam for those who were PC users. The Tomb Raider 2013 game was a reboot of the series which ended up feeling like a prelude to the very first installment. Tomb Raider 2013 focused more on Lara Croft’s beginnings as a 21 year old coming out of college and starting her career as a archeologist. The story focused on Lara Croft and her friends being ship wrecked and ending up on the ancient Japanese island of Yamatai. Throughout, the game Lara Croft ended suffering more than most people would have expected from being captured and impaled to getting caught in a bear trap and being at the mercy of the island’s inhabitants. The character development for Lara Croft in Tomb Raider 2013 was almost perfect and the gameplay felt somewhat similar to something that you would see in a Uncharted or God of War game. It should also be noted that Tomb Raider 2013 had more blood than what fans were normally used to seeing in previous entries of the series.

Also, the graphics, voice acting, world design, dialogue, quick-time events and weather system were all strong positives in Tomb Raider 2013. The skill development system was probably the best thing about Tomb Raider 2013 as it relates to the gameplay. Players were able to use Lara Croft to develop their Master Survival Skills by completing challenges such as: Scavenging, Advanced Salvaging, Bone Collecting, Arrow Retrieval and other tasks. Also, players were able to use Lara Croft’s Bow and Arrow to perform Silent Kills on enemies when she was in stealth mode. The story felt darker than it needed to be considering the fact that the main antagonist Father Mathis was a cult leader who worshiped the Sun Queen a tyrannical spiritual entity known as Queen Himiko. Tomb Raider 2013 ended up becoming a massive commercial success following its release over a decade ago and has managed to sell over 14 million copies worldwide. Along with have a story the online multiplayer game modes Team DeathMatch, Cry For Help and Cry For Help added to the overall replay value of Tomb Raider 2013.
