When it comes down to high profile Disney related video games from the early 2010’s one of the few games many instantly think about is Epic Mickey from 2010. Epic Mickey arguably one of the best Mickey games that we have seen since the 90’s back when 16-bit gaming was still popular. Epic Mickey was an action-adventure platform game published by Disney Interactive Studio and developed Junction Point Games. Epic Mickey was a game that shined as a Wii exclusive mainly because it was a kids game that felt somewhat similar to a 3D Super Mario Game. However, unlike your typical 3D Super Mario Bros game the overall atmosphere and tone for Epic Mickey was pretty dark. The world the game takes place was turned into a wasteland giving players a glimpse into what a dystopian version of the Magical Kingdom looked like. The cool thing about Epic Mickey was that it featured famous Disney characters who were once very popular including Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Despite, Oswald being jealous towards Mickey Mouse for his growing popularity within Disney over the past few decades he ended up forming an alliance with him to stop the main villain The Shadow Blot. The gameplay for Epic Mickey was pretty unique since he used a magical paint brush that could be used to draw and erase things from existence. Mickey also had the ability to form alliances with different characters within the game which would lead to different side quests on top of the main story Epic Mickey presented players with. One of the most intriguing things about Epic Mickey was that Mickey himself was inadvertently responsible for the creation of The Shadow Blot that was terrorizing the Magical Kingdom. Instead of Mickey Mouse being painted as flawless protagonist this game gives players and other characters in Epic Mickey somewhat of a reason to dislike him which was kinda cool. While Epic Mickey was a solid action-adventure platform game for the Wii console the lack of voice-over acting in relation to the dialogue was something that definitely hurt its over overall quality. However, despite, its minor flaws Epic Mickey managed to reach at 1.3 million copies in sales and is considered to be a way better game than its sequel Epic Mickey 2: Power of Two from 2012. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two was considered to be a massive failure since it was universally panned from both critics and gaming publications. As it currently stands the Epic Mickey series is dead but the is no question that the original game from 2010 deserves to be remastered for the Nintendo Switch in the future.
