The 16-bit era of the 90’s was such a great time to be gamer especially considering how amazing 2D graphics were back in the day. The action-adventure genre was not quite as popular in the 90’s as it currently is right now but there were a handful of video games from the 90’s that are considered to be criminally underrated. While Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole is a highly underrated action-adventure classic from ’92 for the Sega Genesis that retro gamers have fond memories about; there were titles like Crusader of Centy that rarely get the type of respect and recognition that it deserves. Crusader of Centy was an action-adventure game released for the Sega Genesis in 1994. Crusader of Centry was developed by Nextech and published by Sega and Atlus software depending on what country it was released in. There are a variety of reasons why the Crusader of Centry was considered an awesome game. The Crusader of Centry was probably the closest thing on the Sega Genesis that resembled The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past for the SNES in terms of visual presentation and gameplay. The Crusader of Centry had a better intro than Zelda: Link to the Past and a melodic soundtrack that players could enjoy as they learned to control the main character of the game Corona.

One of the most intriguing things about The Crusader of Centry included the plot being divided into two parts along with the fact that Corona could only speak to mostly animals. The second half of the game focused on Corona trying to create a better while trying to understand the origins as to why both humans and monsters were at war with each other. Some would go on record and argue that Crusader of Centry had a better story than Zelda: Link to the Past because the plot for the game did not revolve around a damsel in distress. However, it should be noted that the Crusader of Centry was not a commercial success while The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past ended up becoming one of the best selling games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. While Crusader of Centry did poorly in sales during the mid 90’s the game itself is actually a 16-bit masterpiece that could have possibly sold more on the Super Nintendo console. The overhead gameplay looked like something straight out of The Legend of Zelda and the overworld map travel gave of Super Mario World vibes. Crusader of Centy was one of the more creative action-adventure titles to have been featured on the Sega Genesis during mid 90’s.
