Its hard to believe that the Contra series has been around for over 30 years now with the original game being released back in 1987. The Contra series for the most part was very popular back in the late 80’s and early 90’s but it seems like its popularity had took a massive nose dive during the 2000’s and 2010’s decades. During the 2010’s decade we only got to see two Contra games released one of them being Hard Corps: Uprising from 2011. Hard Corps: Uprising was developed by Arc System Works and published by Konami and was arguably the last decent installment within the entire series. The setting for Hard Corps: Uprising took place during the 27th century and 20 years following the events of the original Contra game from 1987. The story revolved around a resistance group trying to survive while fighting against soldiers who work for Commonwealth a group of individuals who rule the earth. The main protagonist of Hard Corps: Uprising was Bahamut the leader of the resistance group fighting against the Commonwealth. Bahamut departed from the Commonwealth forces after discovering the soldiers execution of innocent people. Hard corps: Uprising had both single player and co-op gameplay where players were allowed to choose Bahamut and his friends Krystal, Harley Daniels, Sayuri and Leviathan. Hard Corps: Uprising had a total of eight stages with the main antagonist Tiberus being the final boss. Tiberus was the rule of Commonwealth and eventually transforms into a monster towards the end of the game that players must defeat. While many people praised the cutscenes, cartoonish graphics and overall gameplay one of the few negatives about Hard Corps: Uprising was its difficultly level. Some would argue that having to fight three different forms of Tiberus was overkill especially since the game itself was punishing enough as it was. While the anime cutscene endings were a nice touch to Hard Corps: Uprising the game itself should have been more story driven than it was. In fact, Hard Corps: Uprising probably would have been better off as a anime opposed to a video game. Despite, its difficulty curve many would argue that Hard Corps: Uprising was way better than the Contra: Rouge Corps game from 2019.
