When it comes down to legendary RPG’s to have emerged during the 2000’s Bethsheda’s Elder Scrolls IV game is one that does not enough credit. One of the main reasons why Elder Scroll’s IV gets overlooked by many people is because its 2011 successor ended up becoming one of the greatest RPG’s off all-time. In relation to commercial success Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim ended up selling over 60 million copies across multiple platforms throughout the 2010’s decade. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim without a doubt got way more recognition than its predecessor Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which ended up reaching at least 9.5 million in sales during the PS3/Xbox 360 era of gaming during the late 00’s-early 10’s. However, without Elder Scrolls: IV Oblivion there is no Skyrim because there is no prequel. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was praised for a variety of reasons including its open world gameplay along with the amount of emphasis the game placed on character development. Elder Scrolls IV had a fast travel system and gave players the opportunity to level up their character in order to unlock new skills. Players also had a variety of options in relation to what race/species they wanted to be and had the ability to customize their appearance. While character customization was common in various action role-playing games during the 2010’s these features were uncommon in most RPG titles during the 2000’s. While Bethsheda is trying to move forward with the Elder Scrolls series with the upcoming release of sixth main entry within the series; it seems like the release of Elder Scrolls VI is not going to happen anytime soon. A 4K remake of Elder Scrolls IV for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X is something that would pretty cool if Bethsheda ever considered making it a reality. Despite, Elder Scrolls IV not being as big of an attraction as its successor the game’s 20 year anniversary is coming up in March 2026.
