It seems like 2023 has been a very turbulent year for Niantic, Inc. in general considering all of the negative press and publicity the mobile company has received thus far. Not only did Niantic come under fire for its unexpected changes to Pokemon GO but recently the company was forced to lay off around 230 employees. There is no secret that Niantic has been dealing with budget issues along with the fact that Pokemon GO is more buggy than ever now. It should also be noted that Niantic’s financial woes have been so great to a point where they had to cancel some upcoming mobile games that were most like going to appear on iOS or Android between now and 2024. There were games like NBA All-World along with Marvel: World of Heroes that ended up getting scrapped altogether which made many people question the future of Niantic. While we believed that the worse was over for Niantic it was recently revealed that the mobile app developer has recently been slapped with a lawsuit for “systemic sexual bias”. Apparently, the classic action suit was filed by a female Asian worker who accused Niantic of sexism.

The identity of the female worker has not been revealed but she argued that company devalued the work value of women. She also mentioned that males who worked for Niantic were paid more despite doing less work while she was assigned extra tasks. The woman reported that her salary was around $84,000 during ’21 while her male colleague earned $127,000 in 2022. While the woman did get a raise this past season to $115,000 she still made far less than her male counterparts. She also complained about harassment coming from upper management which mainly consisted of males and argued that the work environment was hostile towards women in general. All of these allegations has many people wondering whether or not Niantic will still be in business within the next few years despite the success of Pokemon GO.
