It looks like we have another gaming company that is going to be following the ongoing trend of laying off employees to reduce expenses. The news has recently broke that the Niantic the developer for Pokemon GO is going to be cutting at least 230 jobs in the future. The job cuts come as a surprise for many people but for others its not to surprising seeing how Pokemon GO has been criticized by many people for its unfavorable changes in relation to gameplay features. As it currently stands Niantic is not expected to go out of business or anything but the company ended up cancelling some big projects. At some point Niantic was expected to release upcoming mobile games like NBA All-World along with Marvel: World of Heroes.
However, due to financial hardships along with the current condition of the economy it seems like those games will never see the light of day. Since Pokemon GO is still a popular mobile game in this day and age many are curious as to how layoffs within Niantic is going to effect the game itself. Pokemon GO is quite possibly one of the most popular mobile games of all-time and has managed to generate at least $1.3 billion since its inception back in July 2016. As far as high profile mobile games are concerned Pokemon GO may very well end up being Niantic’s last game ever to reach over $1 billion in revenue. Also, since cloud gaming is becoming more popular more people might end up turning to streaming apps & platforms to play their favorite video games in the future which can pose a serious threat to mobile gaming in general.
