It seems like 2023 has been a mostly good year thus far in relation to video game industry in general. However, with every set of good news there also the bad and in this case the situation relates to Sony making layoffs to their thePlayStation Visual Arts AAA Multiplayer Team. The news broke the other day that apparently Sony plans of downsizing their team in relation to the new The Last of Us Multiplayer gameplay experience we are supposed to be getting in the future. As it currently stands we do not have an exact number in relation to how many people are going to get cut from the team we do know that at one point it was discussed that the upcoming PS5 version of The Last of US featuring multiplayer gameplay would be cancelled depending on how things played out. Is reported back in April 2023 that Sony had cut nearly 90 jobs in America in relation to both sales and marketing and was shutting down its “merchandiser” team. Its uncertain why Sony has decided to axe so many jobs as late especially following their $3.6 million acquisition of Bungie back in 2022. There speculation that Sony plans on initiating a brand new strategy in terms of developing cost-effective methods in terms of bringing in more revenue. As it currently stands it seems like another recession in America is almost inevitable and Sony along with various other video game corporations are doing everything they can to prepare for the worst. The layoffs regarding the PlayStation Visual Arts AAA Multiplayer Team could very well be the tip of the iceberg of what is to come in the future concerning gaming related job cuts in America.
