It seems like Sony and Microsoft are doing everything within their power to try and buy out certain video game developers in order to gain the upper hand on each other in relation to the console wars. We all know that Sony acquired Bungie this past year for $3.6 billion which is was a response to Microsoft’s $68.7 purchase of Activision-Blizzard. Bungie is the video game company that is behind the legendary Halo series which has been exclusive on Xbox consoles for the past two decades or so. There is no question that Halo is one of the most popular first person shooter video game franchises of all-time behind the Call of Duty series. Sony purchasing CD Project Red in the future would mean that the tech giant would official own Cyberpunk 2077 was is one of the most popular video games of 2020-2021. Since its release back in 2020 Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to reach 20 million in sales across multiple gaming platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC. In terms of revenue Cyberpunk has managed to earn at least $116 million in revenue and is considered to be one of the more popular RPG’s of the past few years. While Sony has not officially set a deal with CD Project Red if talks regarding a future deal materializes and both companies decide to move forward then this could be big deal. The success of Cyberpunk 2077 almost ensures that there will be some type of sequel later down the line and by the time that happens it would most likely be a PS5 exclusive of Sony manages to buy CD Project Red. While Sony is seemingly planing on purchasing CD Project Red its very likely that Microsoft has plans on possibly buying out another high profile video game developer as well.
