When it came down to fighting games of the 90’s the Mortal Kombat series was very popular in arcade centers. Along with its popularity in arcade centers Mortal Kombat I-III were ported for various game consoles including the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo back in the early to mid 90’s. However, the Mortal Kombat Trilogy never made it to the Neo Geo during the 90’s decade.

When it came down providing arcade quality 2D fighting games the Neo Geo was a very good console to have. The only problem was that the Neo Geo ended up being very expensive in countries such as America. The average price of the Neo Geo AES following its release back in 1990 was $649. If the Neo Geo was priced around $200-$300 then console it’s could have definitely sold more in America. In terms of whether or not the Mortal Kombat series could have worked on the Neo Geo is questionable. Competing against the likes of SNK’s Fatal Fury on the Neo Geo opposed to Capcom’s Street Fighter II series on the SNES and Sega Genesis would have been very interesting to see.
