When it comes down to classic video games both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Super Mario World arguably two of the best platform titles of the 16 bit era. In terms of which game was better really depends on whether or not you are more of a Sega or Super Nintendo fan. In terms of sales Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System had managed to sell over 20 million units worldwide since its initial release in the Fall of 1990. On the Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had managed to sell over one million units worldwide.

As a platform title Super Mario World gave players an overworld map along with the option to play as both Mario and Luigi throughout different worlds in the game. Super Mario World also included new villains and seemed longer to complete in comparison to Super Mario Bros I-III. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was a great game because not only did it see the introduction of Knuckles the Echidna but it also had an amazing soundtrack mainly due to the fact that Michael Jackson had done some behind the scenes work for the music of the game. In terms of gameplay both games seemed like they were on the same level probably with the exception of the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a bit more fast paced. Its very hard to choose which game was better overall but ther are some who would give the slight edge to Super Mario World overall as a platform game.
