It seems like 2025 has got off to an interesting start with rumors going around about a potential Minecraft 2 game in the future. Minecraft was one of the most popular video games of the 2010’s decade along with the likes of Grand Theft Auto V, Fortnite and PUBG. Minecraft was developed by Mojang Studios and came out back in 2011 being featured on Microsoft Windows, mac OS and Linux. Since its release at least 300 million copies of Minecraft has been sold worldwide and has been seen as one of the greatest sandbox titles ever made. Minecraft has been praised over the years for its creativity and promoting problem solving skills among gamers especially children. Minecraft developer Markus Persson recently revealed plans not too long ago on possibly creating a spiritual successor for the original game from 2011.
Markus has plans on starting the development of a spiritual successor for Minecraft sometime this year. However, Markus mentioned on a social media post on X that he was apparently lacking the funds to fully create another game similar to Minecraft. While Markus might have plans on making another sandbox-survival game its common knowledge that Microsoft owns the intellectual property for Minecraft after the tech giant purchased Mojang for $2.5 billion back in 2014. Seeing that Markus Persson is not closely affiliated with either entity right now it will interesting to see how things turn out this year.
