We have come a very long way in relation to quality for Dragon Ball Z games. With the exception of the Dragon Ball Z: Butoden series on the SNES and the arcade game from ’94 there were not too many good DBZ titles from the 90’s. We had games like Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension which came out on the SNES back in ’96 which were highly underrated. But we also good some really bad DBZ titles during the 90’s including Ultimate Battle 22 and DBGT: Final Bout which appeared on the PS1 between ’96-’97. Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 was quite possibly one of the worst DBZ games of all-time. The graphics, gameplay and quality of DBZ: Ultimate Battle 22 were absolutely awful with gaming critics and publications review bombing it within the past several years. However, the soundtrack for Ultimate Battle 22 is absolutely legendary and is seen as quite possibly the only redeeming quality of the game itself. Ultimate Battle 22 was game that had a great presentation prior to actually playing it. To say that Ultimate Battle 22 was the worst DBZ ever made is not inaccurate but its also not completely true either. There have been worst DBZ games that came out including Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu, Dragon Ball Z: Sagas and others. Similar to the Legacy of Goku title from ’02 DBZ: Ultimate Battle 22 had at least one redeeming quality which was the music. It should also be noted that Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 has a limited roster of characters which featured roughly over 20 people. Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 was not story driven like the DBZ games we see today and has little to replay value. Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 is a game that could been way better if the developers put more effort into the gameplay. Its almost tragic that a fighting game with such an amazing soundtrack was so bad and gets talked about today for all the wrong reasons.
