It looks like the famous video game developer Bungie is making some big changes to the structure of their company. It has recently announced that Bungie is laying of at least 220 employees which is something that comes as a surprise to many people. However, Bungie is lacking in high profile IP’s aside from Halo and the Destiny series. In fact, we learned that Bungie’s revenue from 2023 was down at least 45% compared to where it was in the year prior. It has been said that the recent news has devastated the employees of Bungie due to the uncertainty regarding their futures. Its rumored that rising costs along with a rough economy has contributed to Bungie’s decision to axe at least 17% of their workforce. Bungie is one of the many video game companies that has followed the unfortunate trend of laying off a large percentage within the past year or so. Since 2023, we have seen video game companies like Sony Interactive Entertainment, Epic Games, Riot Games, Ubisoft, Activision-Blizzard and many others make layoffs due to the rising costs to produce AAA Games. Even if Bungie’s decision is whats best for business its something that is an unfortunate part of a larger trend that is emerging with the gaming industry. Hopefully, Bungie is able to turn things around within its own company while being able to put out better AAA video games in the future.
