Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage came out 30 years ago for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. This particular Spider-Man game was arguably one of the best Marvel related titles to appear on a 16-bit console. Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage for the most part had basic beat em up gameplay and had cutscenes in the form of comic book art. This game was one many 90’s kids had fond memories of especially considering how popular the Spider-Man animated series was between ’92-’97. The Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage game was quite possibly one of the hardest beat em up video games of its time along with the likes of Streets of Rage 3. The game was based off of the fourteen part comic book series which came out in ’93 known as “Maximum Carnage” where Venom’s sinister offspring Carnage was the main super-villain. Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage was one of the better titles that Acclaim Entertainment published during the mid 90’s. However, one of the biggest problems with the game included lack of co-op gameplay seeing that Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage was a one player game. Also, the game being notoriously difficult was something that was somewhat of a turnoff to some people back in the SNES/Sega Genesis era. Despite, the criticisms this game has received over the years it was still better than its sequel Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety which came out in 1995.

One response to “Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage- 30 Years Later”

  1. Even though there was a very aggressive marketing campaign for it, I never bought it for my SNES. Even before its video game release, I was disappointed with the Maximum Carnage storyline in comics.
