Its hard to believe that The Death and Return of Superman video game was released 30 years ago for SNES along with Sega Genesis. This game came out in ’94 a time period where the 2D beat em up genre was still somewhat popular. The Death and Return of Superman was a game with with ten different levels and multiple versions of Superman that players could control. The soundtrack for The Death of Superman was also pretty decent because it felt intense. The Death and Return of Superman featured boss battles against the likes of Clawster, Doomsday, Sentinel and the Man of Steel. The game featured levels where players fly and destroy multiple enemy drones in a rail-shooter like fashion which added some variety to this 16-bit beat em up. This particular game was quite possibly the best Superman video game of the 90’s if not all-time. Most of Superman’s game have been considered to be either horrible or have received unfavorable reviews within the past few decades especially the infamous Superman 64 title from 1999.

The game was based of the popular ’92 storyline which eventually went on to have its own film which came out during 2018. Despite, not having massive commercial success The Death and Return of Superman was quite possibly one of the best 16-bit DC video games along with the likes of Batman Returns from 1992. The Death and Return of Superman was published by Sunsoft and surprisingly developed by Blizzard Entertainment the same company responsible for the Diablo, StarCraft and WarCraft franchises. The Death and Return of Superman is a game that deserves a modern day action-adventure remake on a game system like the PlayStation 5. While the Man of Steel is not nearly as popular as Marvel’s Spider-Man in this day and age remaking “The Death of Superman” arc is something that would draw interest among casual gamers and lapsed DC fans.
