Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle is quite possibly one of the most underrated 2D fighting games of the 90’s decade. Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle was released 30 years ago in 1994 exclusively for arcade and it was a fighting title exceeded any other DBZ title that appeared on SNES, Sega Genesis or even PS1 in terms of quality. Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle had very small roster of characters that featured the likes of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks, Perfect Cell, Mr Satan, Androids 16,18 and 20. The graphics in Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle looked far better than anything you would see in the DBZ Butoden series for the SNES and had fast paced gameplay that resembled the actual anime. Unfortunately, are many casual gamers who are unfamiliar with Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle despite the level of popularity the DBZ series had in America. When came down to 2D fighting masterpieces Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle was one the games that Banpresto made that has stood the test of time within the past three decades.

The Super Battle game was far better than DBZ: Ultimate Battle and DBGT: Final Bout which appeared on the PS1 between ’96-’97. In terms of gameplay DBZ 2: Super Battle was more fast paced and addictive than the Street Fighter II series but it was also more challenging than expected. Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle looks like a game that could have shined on Sega Saturn between ’94-’96 but its unlikely that it would have been a massive commercial success during that time period. Its a shame that Dragon Ball Z 2: Super Battle did not get a direct sequel during the 90’s. Despite, being unknown to most casual gamers in America DBZ 2: Super Battle is still one of the best Dragon Ball Z games out there.
