Its hard to believe that Mortal Kombat Deception is two decades old. Mortal Kombat Deception was pretty much the sequel to the critically acclaimed Deadly Alliance game which came out back in 2002 for PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox. Mortal Kombat Deception had similar 3D gameplay where each characters had their own unique fighting styles that could be changed anytime during battle. The story for Mortal Kombat Deception saw the introduction of a new main antagonist named Onaga who wanted to conquer multiple realms. Onaga had defeated both Shang Tsung and Quan Chi who were the main antagonists of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance after they killed both Liu Kang and Shao Kahn. In terms of storyline Mortal Kombat Deception was interesting but unfortunately the 2000’s was a time period where Mortal Kombat was starting to lose its popularity among casual gamers.

The inclusion of mini-games along with the return of Konquest Mode were both strong positives in Mortal Kombat Deception. This game also had some nice looking arenas along with a robust roster of characters including long time favorites such as: Baraka, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Milenna, Raiden, Smoke, Sindel and more. MK: Deception saw the inclusion of at least nine new characters including Ashrah, Havik, Hotaru, Kira, Kobra and Onaga. Even though, Mortal Kombat Deception was not quite as popular as its prequel it was considered to be on the best fighting games of the mid 2000’s along with the likes of Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur III. While many people believe that MK: Deception deserved a 4K remake years ago its something that unfortunately will never happen since Midway Games became defunct back in 2010. The graphics for MK: Deception might look outdated by today’s standards but it was probably one of Midway’s best MK games quality wise. MK: Deception was not nearly as popular as the trilogy of Mortal Kombat games that we got in the 90’s or even in the 2010’s.
