Its hard to believe that the WWF WrestleMania X8 game was released more than 20 years ago for the GameCube console. Despite, not being a great pro wrestling game WWF WrestleMania X8 was one that people enjoyed during the GameCube era especially considering the roster of Superstars World Wrestling Entertainment had during the time. WrestleMania X8 was also one of the last games that had WWF logo before World Wrestling Entertainment started using the initials WWE from 2002 onwards. WWF WrestleMania X8 the video game did not have nearly as much depth as WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth for PS2 which also came out during Q4 2002. WWF WrestleMania X8 the video game had an Exhibition Mode, Path of a Champion and Battle of the Belts game mode. The Exhibition Mode allowed players to engage in various match types including Single, Tag-Team, Hell in a Cell, Cage, Ladder, TLC, Hardcore and Table Matches. The Path of a Champion allowed players to participate in various matches for each title until they defeated everyone and won whatever championship they were competing for. Path of a Champion allowed players to compete for the World, IC, European, Tag-Team and Hardcore titles and was single-player only. WWF WrestleMania X8 the game did not have a Season Mode with compelling storylines like WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth something that had a negative effect on the overall quality of the game. Battle of the Belts mode allowed players to compete for one of over 50 fictional indie titles through a series of matches similar to Path of a Champion. While the WWF WrestleMania X8 game had a Create a Wrestler Mode it could not save the game from being more boring than it already was. The soundtrack for the WrestleMania X8 game was boring and collision detection was a problem in relation to gameplay. The movement of wrestlers in the WrestleMania X8 game looked stiff when it came to striking and lacked realism in comparison to its successor WrestleMania XIX which appeared on the GameCube console in 2003. However, despite the flaws that the WrestleMania X8 game had the roster was stacked and featured the likes of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, nWo, Undertaker, Triple H, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Kane and many others. The WrestleMania X8 video game was good for its time but in hindsight it can be considered an average pro wrestling that was far from the best especially comparison to the two Day of Reckoning games from 2004-2005.
